Introduction:   Some SHELTONS became Mormons while others actively fought against them. After being expelled from their homes in Ohio, Missouri and Illinois, the Mormons pushed on west of the Rocky Mountains where they found refuge from the sometimes violent religious intolerance they had experienced in the east. Some of these Sheltons married into the families of BROWN, CUMMINGS, CUNNINGHAM, FAUSETT, GRAGG, HAIR, HAMILTON, HARRIS, HENDERSON, HULLINGER, IVIE, JOHNSON, KINSEY, MANTLE, MCGIMNSEY, MORTON, ROBINSON, RUSHTON, SMITH, SULTZER, THOMPSON, WARDLE, WATKINS, WRIGHT & more. We, the descendants, now seek to know more about our Shelton (& related) grandfathers. Please join with us in our quest to learn about this fascinating family. Here's hoping that in working together we can find out more about the roots from whence we came.

I keep catching myself using "Mormon lingo" as I write. Certain phrases are common in my Utah culture (among Mormons and nonMormons). Please write me if I get caught up and don't notice where I may have written something which I have not adequately explained.

ALL of my lines (on my mom's side and my dad's side) ended up in Utah, among the Mormons (members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). As I write up the biographies, I find similar patterns of people who gave up their whole way of life (often in foreign lands) to come join with others who believed in this "new" religion. A handful of SHELTONs are among these early Mormon pioneers. This is my heritage... As I come across them, I will try to place explanations on this page. Here's what I have for starters:

  1. "LDS" is used like saying, "The Mormons". It is sort of a shortcut to mean members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
  2. "The Saints" is used like saying, "The Mormons". It is sort of a shortcut to mean members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
