DNA Patrick Henry

A Commentary: Our earliest tradition is that I descend from one of the brothers of Sarah SHELTON, wife of the patriot, Patrick HENRY. (MSHE) Altho DNA does not support this, I still give creedence to the rumor. I entertain the idea that the DNA results (indicating I am not of this line) and the family legend (indicating I am of this line) can co-exsist.

Consider that my ancestor grew up in a SHELTON home, totally believing he was the son of a certain SHELTON man. Consider further that he was actually the offspring of a pregnancy which occurred thru infidelity or rape. The male SHELTON chain had, in reality, been broken; but the child never knew. The scientific community is learning there are many more "unexpected results" occuring in DNA testing than they ever expected.

I am not doing medical research; I'm doing family research. My family says they decend from one of Sarah SHELTON's brothers; and I believe that they believe it. To me, to drop the family tradition because of a little thing like DNA evidence (lol) IN MY PARTICULAR CASE would be too disruptive. For now, I am following my genealogy trail no matter where it leads ... even if it ends up NOT running thru Hanover. But then again, it just still might!!
