Building A Bridge

Ever see a cartoon drawing of two groups trying to build a bridge from opposite banks of the river at the same time? It didn't work; they did not meet at the middle. Well, my research is leading up to bridge building ... sort of. I've worked with some of the known parts of the Stephen SHELTON (b. 1809) side of the "bridge". As I've tried pushing further, however, I've run into some big-time conflicts of information in the Native American data. Since I've found mistakes in my more-familiar family records, I'm more timid about proceeding into this less-familiar territory without first gaining a stronger background in history.

I'm having a difficult time trying to put my thoughts into words. I am not bashing folks who do genealogy. On the contrary, I rejoice for what others have done. And isn't it great that thru sharing folks can help each other!? It's just that I have learned how innocently & easily mistakes can happen, Mistakes I have already identified (see my previous notes under CPJB) have taught me the importance of being careful.

The middle of my genealogy river is deep and unfamiliar. The currents push against each other and swirl in different directions. When I recently felt I was not making progress, I temporarily stopped trying to build my bridge from the ascending side. I've gone as far as I really trust on my side of the "bridge"; and now I am going to start working with things I trust on the other side. I know the Native American line claimed by my family. I will study this and see where it goes. I am about to find out whether this "bridge" is going to meet in the middle. Wish me luck!
