BACKGROUND (I'm having too much fun): This is an index to a series of my most recent studies. My focus is the family of my gggrandfather Stephen SHELTON (b. 1809) & Nancy BROWN (b. abt 1811). Nancy is said to be a mixed-blood Indian woman whose father was John BROWN & whose mother was also named Nancy. I'm fascinated by the stories but frustrated by the lack of proof. My own blood line is not thru Nancy BROWN but thru Stephen's second wife, Abigail HARRIS Goforth (b. 1818). Because I have so little information about Stephen SHELTON before he married Abigail, I am studying the BROWN line, hoping to pick up information about my SHELTONs. Family tradition says that Nancy BROWN was part Cherokee. I've also seen it written that her mother was from the Sioux Nation & wast traded to a Cherokee family for a horse. There are also clues that Abigail HARRIS was part Indian. But I have no proof (yet) of that either.
