There is a cabin in Ogden, Utah which was owned by a Stephen SHELTON in 1849. I am unaware of any of our family living in Ogden. Still researching this. We know our family first settled in Provo. There is a Stephen SHELTON on the 1850 census there but the family members don't match. It has John SHELTON down as a twin; and there are other things which do not match. Still researching this.
There was a Stephen SHELTON born in 1826, wife named Jane. Children James, Sarah, Margaret, Jane & Elizabeth arrived in Utah 1860 with Captain John SMITH. "With the coming of spring... "A bridge was built across the Weber (River) by Captain Brown in hopes of colonizing the area. The bridge washed away the following spring. Several miles westward on the plain he built a fence and offered his land there for $5 an acre, $10 if plowed. The settlers could then homestead other land for farming purposes but live together for security. " First comers included the families of (includes Higbee). To the east end soon came the families of .. Stephen Shelton ... Reeder ... Murdock ... Shupes ... About 1861.
**There was another SHELTON family in Myton about the time daddy was born, around 1914. They came from Oklahoma & seem to have Native American ties. Got some info on them at the JSMB. I will check into this more.
