  • MOORE, James: Lead about 300 Cherokee against the Tuscarora 1711-1713.
  • MORMON is a nickname often used when referencing members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (or LDS). Perhaps Mormons are best known for their belief that the Book of Mormon is a translation of records kept anciently by inhabitants of the prehistoric Americas. The name "Mormon" actually is the name of a prophet who lived in the Americas anciently. He is a major author and compiler of the Book of Mormon.

  • MORMON BATTALION.   In 1845 The United States annexed Texas. This angered Mexico since they still claimed much of Texas territory. U.S. & Mexican troops had a skirmish on 24 Apr 1846. Congress declared war on 12 May 1846. On 1 Jul 1846 CPT James ALLEN of the U.S. Army arrived at Mt. Pisgah to organize a battalion of Mormons for the war with Mexico.(CESY)
