Introduction: Stephen SHELTON & Abigail HARRIS' son, Stephen, married Margaret BONNER. Margaret's sister, Dessie, married Alvah ALEXANDER. Henry S. ALEXANDER is Alvah's brother. Sarah MILES is Mrs. Henry S. ALEXANDER. Margaret BONNER's brother, George III, married Phebie ALEXANDER, daughter of Alvah J. ALEXANDER and Elizabeth SOULE.
Sarah Simonds MILES is the daughter of Samuel MILES of Connecticut & Prudence MARKS of VERMONT. She was born in Freedom, Cattaragus, New York on 27 Dec 1831. Sarah came west with her family in 1849. She has two half-brothers, Ira & Gustave. She also has brothers William, Samuel & Arson. On 23 Jul 1850 Sarah married Henry S. ALEXANDER. Sarah's father was a tailor by trade. Even though she was only a child when he died, she still acquired quite a knowledge of the tailor's trade and became a beautiful seamstress. She loved refinement and always encouraged good reading and music in her home. She was deeply interested in genealogy and temple work. She was a good homemaker and always was immaculately groomed, as were her 10 children. On 23 Jul 1856 Henry was asked to go to help colonize Carson Valley, Nevada. In 1869 the family moved to Midway. On 10 Apr 1870 Henry was made presideng elder over the Midway Branch. Then they moved to Heber. From 1870 to 1901 Henry served as second counselor to President Abraham HATCH & was then made a patriarch. Bishop Hatch had been called to be the first Stake President of Heber Stake in 1877. Charles SHELTON was stake clerk. Henry died 6 Mar 1903. Sarah died at Heber, Utah, on 14 Jan 1904. Henry S. ALEXANDER & Sarah MILES had the following children: Henry Miles, Sarah Heneretta, Lelia Naomi, William M., Lilly May, Clara Prudence, Kate Josephine, James Monroe, Orpha Luwella, George Snyder & Charles (by another marriage).(HOWB,p261; p699-700)
