Introduction: George BONNER III is the brother of Margaret BONNER, wife of the Stephen SHELTON who is the son of Stephen SHELTON & Abigail HARRIS. Sarah Jane ROSS' daughter, Mary Jane ALEXANDER, married George SHELTON.
George BONNER III is the son of George BONNER Jr. & Margaret EDMUNDSTON. He was born 4 Aug 1850 in Gloscow, Scotland. He came to America when he was five years old. His parents had converted LDS in Scotland. George's father, George Jr., came to America in 1854 & worked in the coal mines of Pennsylvania. The rest of the family joined him one year later. They remained in Pennsylvania until 1861 when they crossed the plains by ox team in Captain Murdock's Company. Young George received his early education in Pennsylvania and later from other schools in Wasatch. He spent much of his time assisting his father to support the family. He later contracted to furnish wood for the Ontario Mine. After that he & his brother, William, started a small store in one room of his father's house. Business was so good that it was only a short time before they were able to build a separate, small store. William remained with George for a number of years. They were quite successful. They also branched out into the livestock business.
George married Phebie Annette ALEXANDER, daughter of Alvah J. ALEXANDER and Elizabeth SOULE. They were married on 4 Jan 1878. About 1898 George BONNER decided Midway needed a building for amusements. Such building was constructed of native rock. It had a stage for dramas & concerts plus a fine wood floor for dancing. Midway had a fine orchestra; and people came from far and near to enjoy the fun. George died on 3 Mar 1913 in Midway, Utah. George & Phebie had the following children: John, Phebie, Elizabeth, Margaret, Florence & Pansy. (HOWB,p563;p703-704)
