Caroline Fisher

Caroline Kazia FISHER was born in Preston, Lancaster, England, on 19 May 1850. She is the daughter of James FISHER & Eliza Kazia CARR. She was a gifted soprano singer & was a lead singer in the Church of England when she was only 14. She was also the lead dramatic reader at the Sewing School for Girls. She converted LDS in 1864 along with her parents, a brother and a sister. They crossed the Atlantic on the "General McClellan". The family settled first in Kaysville, Utah, and then went to Midway, Utah. It was at Midway where Caroline met George WARDLE. They wed on 15 Dec 1868 in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City. They were married by Daniel H. WELLS. In 1917 Caroline bought a home for $300 which was a lot of money for that time. The home is in Glines Ward at 500 S. 1500 West. (See below.)

Fisher Cabin

George & Caroline had four girls and one boy. Caroline & her husband helped settle some parts of Southern Utah. They also lived in Glenwood, Midway, Provo & Grass Valley. They next were sent to settle in the Uintah Basin, in Vernal, Utah. While in Midway, Caroline helped form a dramatic company. She performed there and also in the old Pioneer Theater in Salt Lake City. George & Caroline used to sing together, furnishing music for funerals & other occasions. The couple also formed an entertainment company in Ashley Valley. George died in 1901, leaving Caroline a widow at 33 yrs. Caroline completed a course in nursing taught by Dr. Ellis R. SHIPP. She used this nursing skill to assist many people around her. Because she also had beautiful (and legible) penmanship, Caroline was appointed a registrar of vital statistics in Vernal, Utah. She served in that capacity for many years. She also spent about 20 years as a janitor at the Glines Ward School. Caroline died 24 Apr 1931 in Vernal, Utah. Caroline was one of three wives of George WARDLE. This was during the time of polygamy. George had 24 children so there are many descendants of this family. I descend from George's first wife, Fanny RUSHTON.
